I've never been to Africa, but the Toto song almost always comes to mind when Africa's mentioned.
This past weekend, my friend, Michelle & I ran the Goat Run for Empower Sudan & The Seed Effect - two wonderful organizations that I'll continue to support in years to come.
I was first introduced to these organizations in April 2012 when I ran the Sudan Footrace on the Katy Trail here in Dallas. Because my little sister, Brittany, is so involved with missions in Africa, anything I come across that helps missions, businesses & the betterment of LIFE in general in Africa, I'm all for it! So, for the second year in a row, the race put on by Empower Sudan & The Seed Effect wasn't something I was willing to miss at any cost!
It turned out to finally be a beautiful day after the chilly, rainy weather Dallas has had the last few weeks (and is expected to get tonight through the rest of the weekend - BOO!). We couldn't have asked for a better day & the turnout was even bigger than last year, which is always encouraging.

Anyway, we cut down :10 & :11 seconds from the Dash Down Greenville St. Patty's race we did on March 16th, so some improvement, haha! The plus: we ran the entire race (minus about 20yds) & the entire race course consisted of major hills, so if we applied the St. Patty's course to the Goat Run's pace, I'm guessing we'd have cut down even more time!
We made tutus for the race again...but we didn't run in them this time

Of all of the pictures taken on race day, there were no pictures of Mishy & I actually running, but they did manage to get a picture of my pink, tutu-clad butt, haha! Oh well, at least you can't see my face to know who's backside that really is, haha!
The results! Mishy finished :01 second behind me after we hauled butt the last part of the course - once we could actually see the finish line after all of those hills, we took off & didn't realize just how fast we'd run until they sent out times that night!
We've already registered for our next race of the year: Color Fun Fest 5K on May 11th! Turns out this 2013 resolution of running 1 race per month is not too difficult to keep up with when you've got a great racing buddy like Mishy! Although I'm sad she & her BF broke up, I'm secretly super happy because it means she's staying in Dallas & our fun can continue, haha!
